The temple walls contain scenes from Egyptian mythology, including Isis bringing Osiris back to life, giving birth to Horus, and mummifying Osiris after his death. The temple complex also includes small temples or shrines dedicated to other Egyptian deities, such as Imhotep, Hathor, Osiris, Horus, and Nephthys. The obelisks in front of the temple were removed in 1918 and now stand in a garden in Dorset, England. In the 1960s, the temple was in danger of being submerged with the construction of the Aswan dam, so the Egyptian government and UNESCO worked together to pump the area dry and relocate the entire temple to its current location.
