What to Expect When Visiting Dahab, Red Sea and Sinai, Egypt

This 18-day tour will take you back to the times of the Pharao’s and discover all the beautiful places in the Sinai Desert, without camping.
Every day, we will pick you up and bring you back to your hotel in Dahab so you can enjoy the comfort of your hotel. Lunch on the site is included.

Itinerary

Day 1: Hiking Melehis and Closed Canyon

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
Pick up fromyour hotel at 8 am
At 1 hr drive away into the desert we will reach Wadi Gazala, Here we are going to do our first hike through the Melehis Canyon. Our hike will end in Melehis Oasis, where the famous fresh water spring is that feeds this oasis. After a small break in the shade we will continue our hike to Wadi al Disco where we will have lunch. After lunch we will take the car to drive to the Closed Canyon for the second part of our hiking trip. After the 1 hour hike in this Canyon, the car will bring us back to Dahab.

Day 2: Hiking Wadi Wishwashi and Snorkeling Ras Shetan

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
We will leave Dahab at 9 am to start our trip by jeep to Wadi WishWashi. It will take about 1.5 hr, of which the last half hour we follow an off-road track. A hike of 30 minutes will take us to the fresh waterbasin of Wishwashi. Jump in if you like! Then its time to leave this magical place and return to our car.
Our next stop will be Ras Shetan. We will have lunch here If you like, you can rent snorkel equipment (20 usd not included) and have a swim. After 1 hour, it is time to head back to Dahab.

Day 3: Hiking Colored Canyon

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
The Coloured Canyon is one of the most beautiful canyons, hiding in the Sinai Desert. It will take us 2.5 hour to get there, so we will pick you up at your hotel at 8. am. The hike in the Canyon is about 2 hrs, in which you will have plenty photo opportunities or just small rests to take in the beautiful colors and shapes that Mother Nature created for us. After the hike, before we head back to Dahab, we will have lunch and some time to relax.

Day 4: Hiking Rainbow Canyon

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
On a 2 hrs drive into the desert landscape of the South Sinai Desert, Mother Nature created an other gem for us: the Rainbow Canyon.
We will pick you up at 8 am and head to the Rainbow Canyon. During the 2 hour hike you will have plenty of photo opportunities or small breaks just to look around and soak all the natural beauty in..
After the hike we will visit Wadi Ber al Beria for lunch and relaxing, before we head back to Dahab.

Day 5: Hiking Small Colored Canyon and the White Canyon

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
We will pick you up 8 am to go for our first hike in the White Canyon. It will take us around 1 hour to reach the end of this canyon hike. Then we will go to Ain Khudra Oasis. Have a look at the spring that feeds this oasis whilst the locals prepare our lunch. After the break we will head for the Small Canyon for our second hike, and of course we will stop at the famous Mushroom Rock before we start our last hike of today. Next stop, Dahab, to return to your hotel.

Day 6: Hiking Arada Canyon and Saffra Sand dune

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
This day trip offers a combination between hiking and culture.
We will leave Dahab at 8 am. and drive up the road parallel to the coast in a N-S direction for 1 hour to reach our first hiking point, Wadi Arada. After a 1 hour hike we will set course to the local Bedouin families for lunch. On route, we can see some rock formations with inscriptions that are at least 2000 years old! Our second stop will be at the Saffra sand dune. From the top of this sand dune you will have an amazing view of the surroundings. Back at the foot of the sand dune we will have a short stop at the natural well called Ber al Saffra, before we start our 2 hrs journey back to Dahab..

Day 7: Climbing Gebl al Gouna and visit Historical noamis and geo-vents in South Sinai Desert

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
Throughout the centuries the South Sinai Desert has always been alive. providing home and shelter to humans. During this daytrip we will go back in time.
We will pick you up at 7 am, and set direction to our first objective, a visit to the 5000 year old tombs (called ‘noamis’). We will take the car to visit the Bedouin Families that still live in this area for tea. The matriarch of the house will proudly show you their traditional crafts, which make perfect gifts and original souvenirs. Then we will continue our trip with a 1 hr drive to Gebl al Gouna. After the lunch we will climb this mountain to have a look at the collapsed geothermal vents, where Mother Earth released her hot breath through the crust of the earth, and enjoy the panoramic view of the surroundings. Then its time to hike back to the foot of the mountain (approx 1 hr) and head back to Dahab.

Day 8: Hiking Wadi Jebi and the 2 Sand dunes Hada’ida and Hid’duda

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
Pick up at your hotel at 9 am. It will take us about 45 minutes to reach our first destination, Wadi Jebi where we will stop to have a walk around and look at some rocks with inscriptions left behind by the ancient desert dwellers. Then, the car will bring us to Hid’duda Sanddune, a beautiful spot to appreciate the vastness of Sinai Desert. Next stop will be Gebl Machroom. then time for lunch an before we return to Dahab we will visit the second sand dune, called Huda’ida.

Day 9: Culture Historical St. Catherine Monastery and Mount Moses

Stop At: Saint Catherine, Saint Catherine, Red Sea and Sinai
We will start at 8 am, and head direction Nuweiba to visit St. Catherine, the oldest working Monastery in the world. Here is where Moses allegedly saw the Burning Bush. Around 11 o clock we will start our 3 hr hike to the top of Mt Moses.
At the top of the mountain we will have lunch and wait for the sun to set over the mountaintop, which will give us some spectacular views. After sunset we will hike back to our car and return to Dahab

Day 10: Cultural History; Visit the Monastery of the 7 nuns

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
South Sinai has always been a holy place, attracting religious people. Not many people know that there are more monasteries than St Catherine Monastery. Let us take you there!

We will leave Dahab at 8 am to start our 3 hour journey to visit the still working ‘Monastery of the 7 nuns’, founded by 7 sisters. We will have lunch in one of the restaurants. Before we head back to Dahab, we will visit the ruins of other Monasteries, which over time got abandoned and collapsed.

Day 11: Historical sites Wadi Mukkatab and Wadi Maghara

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
This trip requieres and early start, so we will pick you up at 6 am to start our 3 hour journey to Wadi Mukkathab. There are so many ancient inscriptions left in the bedrocks that we will take 1 hour to have a look at the most interesting ones. Our next stop will be in Wadi Maghara for lunch. After lunch we will go for our second hike, up the mountain where Ancient Hieroglyphics are found, dating from the time of the Pharao’s.
Then its time to start our 3 hour journey back to Dahab. Est. arrival time 9pm.

Day 12: Historical Sites Proto-Sinaitic script and the Ruins of the Temple of Hathor

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
On this daytrip we will take you to some of the most jar-dropping sites hidden in the Sinai Desert.
At 6 am, we will start our 4 hour journey to Serabit al Kahdim. It will take us hour to hike to the top, where the ruins ot the Temple of Hathor can be found. In and around these temple ruins there are many rock inscriptions to be found, but the most important one is the one with the Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions. These inscriptions are being recognized as the very beginning of our own Alphabet. We will have lunch before we start the 1hr hike down. Our next stop will Wadi al Ir where we can also find the ‘graffiti’ the Ancient World carved into the surface of the rocks that are still there for us to find.
Then its time to return to our car and start the 4 hr journey back to Dahab. Arrival time aprox 9 pm

Day 13: Historical Sites Wadi Nasb

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
An other very special historical place in the desert is the area of Wadi Nasb.
Our destination is about 5 hrs from Dahab, first folowing the coastline up to the North and then penetrating the desert. Our fist stop will be at Wadi Laheyan. A small hike up the mountain of 30 minutes will bring us to an other site where Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions and ancient Pharaonic hieroglyphs are found. On the foot of the mountain on the other side, you can still see the remains of the houses of the Ancient Egyptians, dated 5000 years old. Also here, there is the well where these ancient peoples gathered their water to drink and to offer in the Temple to their Gods. After lunch, we will head back to Dahab.

Day 14: Historical sites and Cultural excursion with Umm Yasser

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
Today, we are going to visit Umm Yasser, the very first female Bedouin guide! Umm Yasser (mother of Yasser) lives with her family in the mountains, a 5 hr drive from Dahab. So, we will pick you up at 6 and set course to her tribe. After the traditional Bedouin welcome tea she will take us for a 20 minute hike to see more Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions and hieroglyphs. Umm Yasser knows all about the plants and living in this valley. We’ll head beach to her house for lunch and after lunch and other hike is planned to a place with more ancient inscriptions and drawings, one of them picturing a tiger!. After this, we will have to say goodbye to Umm Yasser and her family and start on our 5 hour journey back to Dahab.

Day 15: Historical and Cultural Site Gebl Um Bogma

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
We will pick you up at 6am from your hotel. It will take us about 5 hrs to arrive at Gebl Umm Bogma, Slowly but steadily our 4wheeldrive will bring us to the top. Here we will see the old houses of the miners for mangenese, a product that was used by the English. To transport the mangenese to the harbour, they set up a cable-carts system, and here we will see the beginning of it. Once we are down from this mountain we will have lunch first, before we go have a look at the end of this cable cart system, close to the coast. Then it will be time to return to Dahab.

Day 16: Historical Sites The Cave painting and the War scene

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
We will pick you up at 6 am. Our 5 hour drive through the desert will bring us to our first objective. On a 30 minute hike there is a cave. Here we van see wall paintings dating back an amazing 12.000 years in time! Not far from this place there is an other interesting site. In the bedding of the rocks there is a painting of the same date, clearly picturing people fighting each other. Hence, the name War Scene, We’ll have lunch in this amazing scenery before we head back to Dahab.

Day 17: Wadi Kharig and Gebl Hasbar

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
We will pick you up at 6 am and head to Wadi Kharig. This area was used for mining copper during the Bronze age. There are lots of inscriptions to find here. Some with cartouches holding the names of the Pharao’s that were in reign at that time, 3000-1000 BCE. The inscriptions at Hasbar are discovered only a couple of years ago, by a Bedouin living in that area. they are the silent reminders that tell us the stories of the thriving lives and businesses in Pharaonic times. We will have lunch here on site, before we head back to Dahab.

Day 18: Historical Sites Wadi Omeira and Wadi Humur

Stop At: South Sinai, South Sinai, Red Sea and Sinai
We pick you up at 6 am to bring a visit to some very interesting sites with 5000 year old hieroglyphs and inscriptions. Its a 5 hour drive, so make sure you ask your hotel for a take away breakfast box. The Hieroglyphs that are found here tell the story of the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt in the time of Pharao Namer 1, around 3050 BCE.
We will have lunch here on site. before we head back to Dahab.,
