Your interesting tour begins early in the morning, as we pick you up from your hotel in Hurghada and take you on a 4-hour drive in an air-conditioned vehicle to the east bank of Luxor.

Here, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the awe-inspiring Karnak temple, which is dedicated to the triad of Thebes – Amun Ra, Mut, and Khunsu. This impressive temple was built by several Kings and contains a complicated plan, including the Hypostyle Hall with its 134 columns arranged in rows. The statues, which are approximately 18 meters tall and weigh around 720 tons each, were built during the 14th century BC by Pharaoh Amenhotep III to guard the entrance of his mortuary temple.

The statues were named after Memnon, a hero of the Trojan War in Greek mythology, due to the sound they produced when the sun’s rays hit them at dawn, which the Greeks believed to be the sound of Memnon greeting his mother Eos, the goddess of dawn. This phenomenon is caused by the expansion of the stone as it heats up from the sun’s rays, creating a series of vibrations that produce the sound. The Greeks believed that the sound was a sign that the statues were alive and began to visit them as a tourist attraction.
