Stop At: Valley of the Kings, Luxor City, Luxor 85511 Egypt

the Valley of the Kings—lies on the Nile’s west bank near Luxor.

During Egypt’s New Kingdom (1539-1075 B.C.), the valley became a royal burial ground for pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Seti I, and Ramses II, as well as queens, high priests, and other elites of the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties.

Stop At: Colossi of Memnon, Thebes, Luxor Egypt

The Colossi of Memnon are two monumental statues representing Amenhotep III (1386-1353 BCE) of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt. They are located west of the modern city of Luxor and face east looking toward the Nile River. The statues depict the seated king on a throne ornamented with imagery of his mother, his wife, the god HAPY, and other symbolic engravings. The figures rise 60 ft (18 meters) high and weigh 720 tons each; both carved from single blocks of sandstone.

Stop At: Valley of the Artisans (Deir el-Medina), Deir el-Medina, Luxor Egypt

The artisans who worked on the tombs in the Valley of the Kings lived here, in an ancient village in Deir el-Medina. Tombs were built here for some of the most prominent workers. these tombs are much smaller and less ornate than those in the Valley of the Kings.

This huge temple complex is dedicated to Ramesses III. There are several courtyards, pylons, and peristyle halls, with inscribed reliefs depicting the defeat of the Sea People during the rule of Ramesses III.

Stop At: Ramesseum (Mortuary Temple of Ramses II), West Bank, Luxor Egypt

The Ramesseum is a mortuary temple dedicated to the great Ramesses II. At one time, an enormous statue of Ramesses II stood here, with a height of approximately 20 meters. However, it has fallen over and now lays on the ground, in several large pieces.
